New: sayso, a radio to your Mac, is in private beta.

HappyFaceSay hi

We turn interfaces
into happy faces.

HappyFace is a small app studio in Frankfurt. We look for the bits of software that make people sigh, and rebuild them until they make people smile.

Every app starts out like this. We ship it once it smiles.

Most software frowns at you.
It doesn’t mean to.

You know the faces. The recipe that makes you scroll past someone’s holiday to learn how much flour. The form that waits until you’re done to tell you what was wrong. The spinner standing where an answer should be.

Nobody builds these on purpose. They pile up one sensible decision at a time, until using the thing feels like being frowned at. Noticing that is usually nobody’s job. Here, it’s the whole job.

How a frown becomes a smile.
Same three steps, every app.

Nothing ships until it passes the last one. Some features take a week. Some take a year.

See how it turned out
  1. 01Find the sighWe start with a moment that makes people groan, and write it down exactly as it feels.
  2. 02Take things awaySteps, settings, screens. If it can go, it goes, until only the job is left.
  3. 03Add one good surpriseThen something small worth grinning at: a hat that smiles back, a pill that listens, a play button that just plays.

Three frowns so far,
turned upside down.

One for your kitchen and two for your Mac. Each started as a sigh we got tired of hearing.

House rules.
Short list. We stick to it.

Every app gets measured against these six before it ships, and again every time it changes.

  • One app, one job.

Each app does a single thing you’ll understand in a minute and want to keep for years.

  • Fast is friendly.

Waiting is the most common frown there is. sayso finishes typing about a third of a second after you let go of the key.

  • Your stuff stays yours.

No ads, and we don’t sell your data. sayso listens on your Mac, and Runway has no analytics at all.

  • Delight is a feature.

Springs, sounds and the occasional face. The details nobody asks for are the ones people remember.

  • A human writes back.

Email us and you’ll hear from the person who built the thing, not a ticket number.

  • Made in Frankfurt.

Designed and built in Frankfurt am Main, by a design engineer with strong opinions about corner radii.

Meet the team

Four faces.
Three of them are apps.

One human and three apps that work very long hours. Here’s who does what.

  • S

    Simon

    Founder, design and code

Draws the faces, writes the code, answers the email.

  • CookThis

    Head of Dinner

Watches recipe videos so you don’t have to. Never asks you to like and subscribe.

  • sayso

    Chief Listener

Only listens while you hold the key, then gets out of your way.

  • Runway

    Play Button Operator

Presses play all day, for you and your agents. Hasn’t needed to open Xcode once.

Hiring? Not yet. But if you notice the little things, say hi anyway.

Got a frown for us?

Tell us about the software that makes you sigh. Every HappyFace app started as somebody’s complaint, and the best ones turn into the next app.

Send us a frown

Write it like you’d tell a friend.
No forms, no templates.

Every email gets read.
By the person who makes the apps.

Good frowns get fixed.
And you hear about it first.
